The hymen can be pierced due to sexual intercourse, genital trauma (the penetration of an object with a blow), the insertion of an object during masturbation.
Perforation of the hymen defines that no blood will come from the person in the future, and this situation is expressed among the people with words such as "loss of virginity, malfunction, hymen rupture, hymen loss". In the medical literature, this phenomenon is referred to as "hymenal perforation".
In some cases, although the hymen is pierced, no blood may come from the person. This situation is related with the shortage of blood vessels in the tear region formed in the hymen. At the same time, microscopic bleeding will not be visible.
In some cases, although the hymen is not ruptured, bleeding may occur during intercourse. This situation is related to the damage of the surrounding tissues during the friction during the relationship. At the same time, bleeding from inside the uterus mimics hymen bleeding in people, which can cause anxiety in people.
For all these reasons, the only way to find out whether the bleeding after a relationship or sexual trauma comes from the hymen is by a hymen examination by an experienced gynecologist.
Even if there is a suspicious situation about the relationship, even if there is no blood, it will be useful to perform a hymen examination in order not to have a question mark in mind and to make a definitive diagnosis.
How to check the hymen?
Hymen examination is a one-minute simple and painless examination performed by a gynecologist or forensic doctor by pulling the outer lips on the gynecological examination table.
The examination will examine the integrity of the hymen and whether there is any redness or bleeding.
If it was done within the first 7 days after intercourse, bleeding marks due to fresh tear will be seen on the hymen (Fresh rupture).
After 7 days, it is impossible to tell how old the rupture was (Old rupture). Because after 7 days, the tear becomes completely permanent. For example, it becomes impossible to understand whether the person had a relationship two weeks or two years ago.
In some cases, the exact result cannot be said due to the structure of the hymen, and in this case, further examination may be requested by the gynecologist physician by enlarging it with a “colposcopy device”.
How are tears in the hymen described?
The hymen consists of a round and membranelike structure located at the entrance of the vagina. There is a space in the middle of the menstrual blood that allows it to flow out.
Tears formed in the hymen are also described in the "clock dial direction".
The tears descending exactly to the bottom indicate the loss of virginity.
In some cases, tears formed as a result of congenital or subsequent blows do not go down to the bottom of the hymen. These half tears are defined as "natural notch" and do not affect virginity as they do not disturb the integrity of the hymen. That is, although there are notches on the hymen that do not descend to the bottom, the person is still considered a virgin.
Since it is not legal to give hymen reports in clinics and clinics, such reports can only be prepared by forensic physicians in cases of forensic cases.
